Fairmount Water Works

Friday we ventured to the Fairmount Water Works Museum. We used the same path we used when we went to the Art Museum a few weeks earlier. As we walked this we talked about how this park was used and how it could be improved. Many people used it mostly for recreaction ex. (biking, picnics, etc..) The one issue that was adress was the railroad traffic. It was hard to access the other side of the tracks. There was also a lack of water fountains and restrooms. However, there were many areas these places could of been used.

As we approached the Water Works we looked at many thinga surrounding it. The water fall and where people lived above, how the museum was built like a house, the wildlife in the water and how pollutted the water was.

Finally when we got into the museum we learned where water was transferred after its use. There are three different water treatment facillities in Philadelphia. The facillity that treats my water is the Baxter Treatment Facillity. We watched a movie on the history of the Water Works. It made Philadelphia the frst to make water transportation a municipal responsibility. It was closed down because of its pollution. It was so polluted that not only did it spread yellow fever that the water actually turned black. The Water Works was turned to a swimming pool and transformed into an aquarium. However it ended up being a historical landmark and forever a museum to show how Philadelphia started its water system transportion
